Paul Murray graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1984 and has since dedicated his life to painting, teaching, and travelling. His practice explores the balance between physical form and negative space, drawing inspiration from both landscape and still life. Through layered brushwork, drawing, and collage, Murray creates works that shift between abstraction and representation. Pattern, texture, and mark making play central roles, guiding each composition as it evolves. For Murray, objects and spaces are starting points—his process allows the brushstroke or line itself to determine what unfolds, revealing a delicate interplay of structure and spontaneity.
