Allison graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1988, with First Class Honours and did a postgrad there before spending a year on a British Council Scholarship in Lodz, Poland.
She was artist in residence at Edinburgh Zoo in 2001, and now works from her studio in Edinburgh, with regular trips to Tiree, Mull and the beaches of East Lothian.
Allison was nominated as the Holyrood's Artist of the Month in April 2013.
