Deborah Phillips

Deborah Phillips is a contemporary Scottish artist celebrated for her vibrant, textured acrylic landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the Scottish countryside, particularly in the east, her work captures the changing light, colour, and atmosphere of the landscapes she loves.

Her practice is immersive and hands-on. From exploring the countryside to collect reference material, to priming boards, mixing vibrant paints, and applying them in expressive swathes, every stage of the process is part of her creative expression. Deborah works intuitively, layering and manipulating acrylics until each piece conveys the energy and mood she seeks. She builds rich textures on a variety of surfaces, creating shimmering, effervescent paintings that respond to light and invite close inspection.

Born in Dundee, Deborah is the daughter of renowned Scottish artist Douglas Phillips. She exhibited her first works at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art at just 14 and later studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, graduating with a BA (Honours) in 1987.

Deborah now paints full-time, exhibiting widely across the UK. Her work is held in corporate and private collections internationally, reflecting her reputation as one of Scotland’s leading contemporary landscape artists.
