Douglas Roulston (b. 1984, Glasgow) is a Scottish landscape artist known for his dramatic and evocative depictions of the country's rugged scenery.
Douglas earned a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, followed by a Master of Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2008. In 2013, he furthered his studies with a PGDE in Art and Design and now balances his painting career with part-time teaching in the East of Scotland. He lives in Broughty Ferry with his wife and two children.
Deeply inspired by the 19th-century Romantic painters who first captured Scotland's wild beauty, Douglas brings a bold, expressive energy to his work. Using oil and acrylic, he exaggerates the drama of the landscape - intensifying rugged rock faces, stormy seas, and turbulent skies pierced by shafts of light. His paintings convey not just the visual majesty of Scotland but the raw, untamed spirit of its weather and terrain.
An avid outdoorsman, Douglas explores Scotland's remote landscapes on his mountain bike, often venturing into the wilderness that inspires his work.
Beyond his painting, Douglas is passionate about using his creativity to support charitable causes. His painted sculptures, including the Oor Wullie Big Bucket Trail, Storm the Scotty Dog and Ossian the Highland Coo, have helped raise over £5,000 for charity, alongside his well-known Star Wars-themed snow sculptures. In 2023, he created a large-scale Halloween display for CHAS, raising nearly £1,000 and bringing joy to the community. He finds great fulfilment in these projects and hopes to inspire others to give back through creativity..
